Before Dawn

by C.S. Scotkin

Back out on the porch

rocking in my chair,

cats sleeping at my feet

day’s promises are fair.

Sun has yet to rise

sit and let the dark

breezes sneak through screens

softly find their mark.

Permeate my space

silent sounds so strong

as peace enters in

know that I belong.

  1. The last verse is the one that grabbed me and made me identify strongly, as I'm a morning sun watcher, and it describes EXACTLY what I experience, the peace and the belonging...beautifully expressed. My thanks.

    ma

  2. "silent sounds so strong...the sound of silence...I believe silence resounds within our own thoughts. We can hear ourselves only in the pre-dawn hours. Beautifully stated in your poem.

    My chair rocking

    Cat at my feet

    The day promises

    Sun yet to rise

    Sitting in the masked screened

    breezes of night

    settling upon my

    peaceful soul.

    I am one with all.

  6. I love the air in the poem.....it's peace, peace, everywhere...the silence and the pre-dawn weather...the whispering breezes...you made me feel it in my nerves and I can enjoy now the meditative calmness...and how i long to dissolve myself onto it...a word among the breezes, the song in the heart of a wind!

  7. Now that's the way to start the day with a morning so serene, you know your day is about to be a good one!

  13. A cool pre-dawn breeze sweeps thru the screened in porch ,,,,Is by favorite time of the day,,,4--430 ,,,Coffee in one hand ,,,Cigarette in the other going over the days routine ,,,Nicely Done

  14. You do like your dawns.  Do I see a Folgers commercial in the making as the sweet breeze wafts with the delicious aroma of Juan Valdez's hand picked coffee beans, the poet sits and ponders her next word while sipping a strategically placed cup of Folgers? lol GM

  15. You describe my favorite time of pre-dawn perfectly!

Once upon a time, not too long ago, those were my only moments of solace. Now I yearn for the lives of ever running teenagers through my home. It is much too quiet at times.

    Thank you for sharing this!
