Do you have to Dry Clean items that are Dry Clean Only?

I wonder if you can hand wash or machine wash alone 'dry clean only' items. I have a black all cotton garment that says Dry Clean with a large circle beneath it. But I would like to know generally for all items marked this way.

  1. I put the stuff by it's self in my washing machine. I use cold water and the delicate cycle. I reshape and lay flat or hang dry. They come out beautiful.

I never used a dry cleaners before.

  2. DRY CLEAN ............

  3. I hand wash them in cold water with Woolite.  Nothing's ever been ruined.  But I wouldn't do it with cashmere or real velvet or satin.

  4. When they have something marked 'Dry Clean Only', it means it can be easily damaged or ruined by running it through the washing machine.  I wouldn't chance it.

  5. From my knowledge, the reason it says Dry Clean Only is because it's 100% cotton, and cotton will shrink, especially pure cotton clothing. Dry cleaning prevents shrinking, and anything that requires you to wet the clothes is likely to shrink them.

  6. obviously. dry clean only means just that

  7. Dry clean only, generally means, u have to dry clean it only. lol

  8. The have at home Dry Cleaning Kits at your local Walmart.

  9. Depends ~ sometimes if the fabric is like a cotton then I will go ahead and wash in cold w/ a woolite or black clothes laundry detergent but hang dry then iron

Defiantly don't if it has silk in it because it just ruins the clothes

Usually a loose knit sweater I won't but if it is a tight knit sweater then I will wash like above

Anything super expensive I defiantly take to the cleaner because it isn't worth ruining when you can dry clean it

  10. i throw mine in the laundry, they tend to be more wrinkly, but its just a skirt and sweater
