    Wai Khru is showing respect to your trainers, your school and the ideals of muay thai. Wai khru is a way of intimidating your opponent if you do it well and the moves are threatening; such emotions are completely unrelated to Buddhism.

    A lot of Thailand's culture about ghosts and spirits is related to the local culture rather than Buddhism itself. Some might think it attract devas to protect them in their fight, but that's just local culture.

    Dancing is discouraged in Buddhism, and wai khru is a type of dance. Wai Khru is a great way to stretch your body and improve coordination. Muay Thai was developed in Thailand and is the national sport there so honouring their cultural practices is a nice way of showing respect.
