Do you have to be Canadian to be a Mountie?

Been wondering for a while, did a quick search online couldn't find squat, didn't know where else to ask this question. so do you?

  1. To apply for a job as a regular member (police officer) of the RCMP, you must meet the following basic requirements:

    * be a Canadian citizen

    * be of good character

    * be proficient in English or French

    * have a Canadian secondary school (high school) diploma or equivalent

    * possess a valid Canadian driver’s licence

    * be 19 years of age at the time of engagement (may apply at  18 years of age

    * meet medical/health standards

    * be willing to relocate anywhere in Canada

    * be physically fit


  2. No,  they are an equal opportunity employer.   You must be a legal Canadian resident and not have a criminal record.

  3. You have to be a resident of Canada at the very least. I don't know if Canadian citizenship is required.

  6. You have to be a Canadian citizen to be a mountie.   But you don't have to be born in Canada in order to be a Canadian citizen.  

    Canada accepts immigrants.  And immigrants can become Canadian citizens 3 years after they come to Canada.

  7. Yes, If you're going to be a police officer on the national force, you have to be Canadian as you would be representing Canada in the courts, handing out tickets, dealing with legal documents, national security etc.
