  1. No, foreign nationals are allowed to join the US Armed Forces, if they already have legal immigration status (green card).

The department of defense is considering whether to open up recruiting to non-residents but has not decided yet.

  2. Yes, you have to be an United States Citizen to join our armed forces. Although you can be naturalised into a citizen when you sign up for the armed forces, at least they did that back in the 80's.

  3. You have to be a citizen of an allied country.  Check with the recruiter.  When I was in the USAF, my best buddy was a citizen of New Zealand.

  4. yes

  5. yes you have to be a citizen.

  6. Here is what the USAF website says in their FAQs (US Navy is pretty much the same, see refs below):

Enlistment into the U.S. Air Force, or any branch of the U.S. military, by citizens of countries other than the United States is limited to those foreign nationals who are legally residing in the United States and possess an Immigrations and Naturalization Service Alien Registration Card (INS Form I-151/551 -- Commonly known as a "Green Card"). Applicants must be between 17 and 35; meet the mental, moral, and physical standards for enlistment; and must speak, read and write English fluently.

Note: The U.S. military branches cannot assist foreign nationals in obtaining admittance into the United States. Questions concerning immigration to the United States should be asked of the U.S. Embassy. Only after immigration procedures are completed and an applicant is legally residing in the United States may an application for enlistment be accepted.

Furthermore, in order to be commissioned an officer in the U.S. Air Force, one must be a native-born or naturalized United States citizen.

  7. WHOA!  Look, I'm in the AIR FORCE and YES YOU CAN JOIN!!! Getting a commission as an officer takes some doing, but it is possible.  We have hundreds of non-US citizens serving and service helps gain citizenship AND all fees are waived for serving military members!  So, it's a good deal.  Contact a US base in Germany via their Public Affairs office, or give me a shout at generok@yahoo.com for specific info.  Good luck!

  8. yes you do

  9. probably can with our government. they'll pay for or let anyone do anything as long you are NOT a resident!
