By being a resident..I think that means I have to live there for 1 year and 1 day consecutively. I currently live in Illinois and receive the state's Medicaid under my mom's name..but I want to get an individual plan in California, as I'll be living there from now on. So do I have to be a resident? Thanks =)

  1. Yes, you have to be a resident.  No, you don't need to live there a year and a day.

The easiest and fastest way to change your residency, is to switch your driver's license to CA from IL.

You will need to apply for welfare under your own name.

  2. Agree w/ the above. You have to be a resident of Cali. once you are there change your DL to Cali  and then apply for you there in cali.

  3. I agree with the first answer.

Also, some people, and I know some, who have moved from one state to another, kept receiving welfare benefits from their previous state, and applied for benefits in the new state.

    This is called fraud.

When you start receiving bennies in CA, be sure to cancel  the ones in IL.

    Best wishes, and God bless.
