Do you have to be certified to be a kindergarten aide?

I was wanting a job as a kindergarten aide since I am currently taking coursed to become a teacher. Do you have to be certified to be an aide? If not what do employers look at to make a decision in hiring for that position? I have never worked in child care just as home health aides and such. And for the last five years I have been a receptionist. Thank you

Just have some college classes under your belt and some experience w/ children. I  believe they would look some that is responsible, organized,can take charge, classroom management skills, good time management skills, enjoys children, innovative, creative, flexible,,  can relate to the children, have some child dev. knowledge, Know what is dev. appr. for kids, good communication skills verbally and  written.
