  1. It is a good idea to be versed in both since you'll need to know about chemical properties associated with drugs, neutriceuticals/vitamins/herbs, and the human anatomy & physiology.  And as far as biology goes, if you excelled at that, try incorporating your knowledge of bioavailabilty, bioabsorption properties of drugs, etc., with your weaker knowledge of chemistry and maybe it'll help you remember by either memorization or association, plus it might make it all more simple and easier for you to master and learn.

We still need better docs and nurses in this baby boomer generation, and remember that alternative medicine, while not mainstream quite yet, WILL most certainly be soon the future teachings at many institutions (well, so long as there's money involved, that is), so gear-up for terms and understandings of natural and alternative care and you'll be ahead of the curve.

Know them both and you will def. make it.

  2. Short answer, yes, you have to be good at chemistry and biology.  Generally learning medicine/nursing takes a huge amount of memorization, but it takes the basic sciences and the skills o build on them to apply this knowledge to cases and situations where it matters.

That being said, if you really care about the material, you can make up for many of your earlier shortcomings by studying hard.  It also depends on what field you want to go into.  In practice, it requires more complex understanding to become a nurse than a medical technician, and to become a doctor than a nurse, although the skill set is entirely different, meaning a good doctor wouldn't necessarily make a good nurse and vice versa.
