do you have to be over 16 to put petrol into a car on a forecourt?

I assume you're in the UK??

Several petrol stations around my area (North Wales) have signs, they mainly seem to be Tesco and BP stations.

The easiest thing to do is either ask a police officer/call your local police station, or ask the staff members in your local petrol station.

Yes "Haza" is absolutly correct. You have to be 16 and above

The link below is from the Government's Health and Safety website.

Scroll down to the section headed 'Make sure that...' where it says:

"...people under the age of 16 do not buy petrol or operate dispensers."

So if you're under 16, no you can't operate a petrol pump.

you have to be 16 or older.......there are usually signs on the pumps at the petrol station.
