  1. How successful you will be will depend on two things

    (1) how good you are as a waitress and

    (2) how good the restaurant is

Being pretty could be an advantage or a disadvantage -

Just pick a decent place to work and do your best....

  2. You do not have to be pretty, and besides that "pretty" is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

All you need to do to be a good waitress or waiter (they use "server" now but its a moot point), is a smile and to be attentive.

Just understand going into that 10% of your customers are going to have a bad day and when they come in a waiter/waitress is the easiest person to take it out on.  You do not have to put with someone who cusses at you, just notify a manager if they do.  But you do have to listen to gripes and just be apologetic and attentive.

Its a very fun job to have and if you act like you enjoy being there it rubs off your customers and your fellow employees.

Some of the most fun I ever had was waiting tables, I did it for 4 years.

  3. You don't have to be pretty, but you need to be fast, fit and smile even when you feel like pouring the hot soup over some posh tart straightened hair.

  4. You don't have to be pretty to be a waitress.  People really do tip for good service, maybe also for good looks sometimes, but it is good tips are about good service.  It is pretty easy to get a waitress job.  It is really hard work.  Waitressing can be profitable if you are a good waitress.

  5. No, just be nice, but sadly being pretty definitely helps

  6. no just be really nice

tats all i look to when i go out to eat

someone who isnt going to be mean

    u get me right? =D

  7. I'm sure being pretty won't hurt...

Mostly just have a good personality, smile a lot, be prompt and attentive. Usually thats enough.

  8. No, you don't have to be pretty but efficient in getting the orders right and getting it to the customers as soon as possible.  Also nice to have a good personality and look presentable.  It depends on where you work will depend on the pay.  You will most likely make less then minimum wage and rely on tips.

  9. Personable and attentive would be the best qualities as far as I am concerned. I am more likely to give a good tip to this type.

  10. nope you don't have to be pretty but it sure does help alot if you are and you'll probally get bigger better tips if your pretty cause that's jsut how life is unfortunately but what is more important is being kind patient prompt and those kind of things.

  11. no

  12. Well i think that been pretty helps, but if it depends where you are applying, you also have to be efficient.

  13. no being pretty has nothing to do with it. you need to have a gret personality and get the order out correctly and promply. even though the promptness doesn't have anything to do with it has to do with the kitchen you will get the heat for it. and you can make good money but it depends on where you get a job at and what shift you work there.

  14. ok first off no it does not matter if ur pretty or not and yea it acn make u lots if money.... but ur dont have to be pretty but i bet u ur!! so u have no worries....

  15. i was a waitress for 3 years and it was the most fun! i even sometimes consider going back to it. you do get good money and dont need to be particularly pretty just clean and friendly. when you go for the jobs make sure you ask that if on the bills customers pay they put on a service charge. how much it is and how much of that actually goes to you. the managers like to rip you off your tips. and dont go for anywhere too too fancy cause the clientele are usually tighter. but dont go for a greasy spoon either. find a happy medium.

  16. You don't have to be pretty, but it helps.  You really need a good personality, patience, and a sense of humor.  Your tips are where you make money and that depends on you--not your looks. I don't know if it is easy to find a job.  Take a chance--Columbus did!

  17. The only question you should be asking is "Will I make a lot of money"

Being pretty should be the last thing on your mind.  All women with confidence have the same pretty face (or contrarily, the same determined one).  Go in there, apply, and wait for the result.  No faces about it.

As for the cash? It depends on you, if you "work" for your tips, you can get a great sum.

As a waitress, you and your co-workers will (depending on company policy) decide who gets tables of a certain type.  You will notice the stereo type that takes place among the other workers as they try to take tables for which they'll get a bigger tip.  But the real pointer is: pay attention to who walks in the door, if you're good at reading body language, pick the people who are social and socialize with them as you service them.  It's a lot easier to tip a server who's nice than someone who barely respects your business, and the gap between 20 and 25% closes as their meal disappears.

  18. This is absurd. No you don't have to be 'pretty' but looking clean and friendly is obviously good because you are dealing face to face with people.

And don't hold your breath on making alot of money. Most waitressing jobs pay minimum wage and rely on tips.... and depending where you work that could be next to nothing.

  19. No you don't have to be pretty but you have to be efficient and cater to your tables. As far as the money goes, most don't make much money , as the diner or restaurant takes it 's cut as well as paying the bussers. Talk and get to know customers and men usually give better tips. It also depends on what shift you are and the amount of traffic you get in the establishment. Be friendly, courteous and attentive and you will get better tips. As far as being attractive, it is sad that many, especially men, will give a pretty girl more money for tips but it isn't right. For me, it is good service that determines what I give as a tip. One good thing about waitressing, which is hard work, is that you always have money in your pocket everyday you work! Good luck!
