my husband and i moved into a house last december...renting obviously. well a few months after we moved in we got a visit from the city asking if we were renting. so i confirmed and he left. i called my landlord and told him what happened. later that day the guy from the city came back and posted an orange violation sticker on my door stating we were not registered with the city as renters. again i call my landlord and tell him of the visit. he tells me to call the city and say that we are NOT renting but staying with the family that owns the home. so my question is how does this effect me or my landlord?

  1. I wonder if it's more of a violation from the landlords end than yours....perhaps the landlord that needs to be clear to the city that the house is a rental home?  It seems odd that the landlord basically told you to lie to the city?  I don't know that I'd be comfortable retracting what I originally said (the truth) in order to cover up for him.  In any event, if it is you that needs to register, I don't expect that it would be a big deal.  I'd read the notice again, and contact the city with any questions or for clarification.  I'm sure there is a number on the notice -but if not, here is a general address/number:

    City of Roseville

    P.O. Box 290

    29777 Gratiot Avenue

    Roseville MI 48066

    Phone: 586-445-5410

    Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm

Location: 1/2 mile north of 12 Mile Rd

on the west side of Gratiot
