Do you have to change the sat dish in order to get hd programming?

i have directv, and i recently got a HDTV. do i have to change just the receiver to a HD receiver, or do i need to install a whole different dish

  1. They need to put up a new dish - it's wider/oval shaped. You also need the HD receiver or HD DVR.  You can use the same cable line though.  :)

  3. Depending on which dish you have, You may have to get a new dish. DirecTV is adding new HD programming that requires a 5-LNB dish.

Just got it today.  I had to have a new dish installed b/c i didn't have the 5lnb one.  You need to have that one in order to get the upcomming hd programming from directv.  They should have let you know this when you purchased the service.  If not just call them up and they'll install a new dish for free.

  6. You dont have to do anything except purchase Dtv's HD Programming. I have the same Dish System. Alot of channels are aready in HD. For instance...NBC's prime time programs are in HD.

    Check your local listings for details. The TV Guide also lets you know which programs are in HD. Hope this helps
