  1. If you switch to sand you wont need to.  I keep 4 leopard geckos in a big tank and use sand as the substrate and it is pretty clean and every few days I just scoop the turds out.  Its alot easier than reptile carpet.  The lizards like it better too.

  2. Yes, you do. Leopard geckos usually deficate in the same spot in their tank every time, so you can put a piece of paper towel or toilet paper on the part that they go on to make cleanup a lot easier. That's what I do.

  3. Yes you do. That's why I don't like reptile carpet. Paper towels are better.

Edit: Yeah, I agree with the person below me. Sand is probably the best thing since they are foundd naturally on sand.

  4. I will disagree with the 2 above posters.  Leos are NOT naturally found on sand.  That is a complete myth.  They are found on hard packed clay and rocks... NOT sand at all.

Anywho, I clean up the p**p, but I only wash them about once a month.  You can also set little squares of paper towel in the spot your leo poops, which then you can change as needed, and it should be able to go longer between washings.

About cleaning, I use dish detergent and hot water.  Then I use a scrubby sponge and get all the extra urates off, then let it drip dry.  Your leo will be fine for the few hours it takes to dry off.

  5. Do not get sand leopard geckos can try to eat a cricket but miss and end up with a mouthful of sand which if they swallow can cause impaction which can be fatal.  You should scoop out the p**p everytime he goes on the carpet just use a spoon, and where he normally goes put some papertowels or newspaper or even a dish and he will use it like a litter box
