Question:

Do you have to cut a hamster's whiskers?

For a while, I've noticed that my dwarf hamster's whiskers have grown really long- more than an inch and a half.

Is it safe to cut them? How?

Also, she's not very used to me holding her- so how would I try to cut them on her?

  4. No, hamsters use their whiskers to sense things around them, like the way we use our nose or eyes! It would be like someone cutting off your ears so you couldn't hear!

  5. Oh my no don't cut the whiskers or their fur at all they need them. The only trimming necessary for hammies is their teeth if they grow to long and if you do need them trimmed go to a vet to get them trimmed other wise you could cut off their tongue and kill them. You can also trim their fingernails but there isn't any point if the nail is to long they'll just chew it off :P

  8. Not at all, they are like eyebrow hairs and eyelashes, they will fall out by themselves and be replaced easily.

    A hamster needs its whiskers.

By the sounds of it you have not just recently purchased her, it only took me a few days before my mice would step straight onto my hand if I offered it. Do you not play with her? Poor girl.

  10. no u should not cut them . its not like hair they can feel it . for some animals how long the wiskers are is how big of a space they can fit in . so i would say dont cut them
