Do you have to detune a new snowboard?

Well my dad got a snowboard last year and he never detuned the edges and he was fine. But I just got a k2 va va voom and I dont know if I have to detune the edges or not. Mabe it is because my dads board is a pow board and mine is a park. IDK???

  1. Detune the board if you are on rails or boxes. The edges for park are rounded while slope you need enough edge for ice. The rounded edge does not grab as hard when sliding sideways as opposed to running the length of the board. Your dad is probably skidding and carving more than you. Ride the board for a day and see how you like it to perform. This is the same theory as snow skis a sharp edge for carving on ice, a rounded (dull) edge for sliding sideways.  You may want to try detune under foot and sharp on the ends with an edge bevel.
