I'm from Northern Ireland so I'd be doing A levels. I'm actually only doing my gcses this year but I just wanted to know. I think it would be awesome to go to university in the Republic or Ireland. Although, I heard that you gotta do 4 A levels. I'm going to 4 AS but after that I'm gonna drop one so that I'm only doing 3 for A2.

Is it true that you have to do 4 A levels? I don't think I could manage that. Are there other requirements? Irish?

Can someone explain this to me please

  1. To go to university in ireland we have a points system. Each course has different points in different universties. For example my course was about 310 points i think.  (points for courses go up to about 580 for medicine and the max number of points you can get is 600 by getting all A grades).

    To calculate your points from A levels you use results from four A level OR 3 A level and 1 AS level. However you get less points for an AS level.

    The points for A levels are:

    A = 150

    B = 130

    C = 105

    D = 80

    E = 40

    For As levels are:

    A = 75

    B = 65

    C = 55

    D = 40

    E = 20

    So you dont have to do 4 Alevles it really depends on the course you want to do. If you want something with high points like medicine, law, archtecture you wont be able to get in without 4 A levels. To check tou the points for different courses go here http://www.cao.ie/index.php.

    You have to apply to the university you want to go to for exemption from needing Irish.

  2. There is a website where you can get an educational qualifications comparison, to see whether or not your qualify for a course in another country. Only I don't know what it is .... I would try the EU website to start with.
