I know  for a fact they really do this.  My son just went for his permit.  I"m doing parent taught and he doesn't necessarily have to take the driving test.  But while I was there I asked the officer if Parallel parking was still part of the test and he stated it was.  

It's not that hard though.  I actually like parallel parking!!!

You have to at least attempt to parallel park, if you don't try than you fail.  You only lose 3 points if you dont do it correctly.
