I was watching a gymnast on the USA gymnastics team who attempted a tumble and missed. Her miss put her in the position to make a perfect back roll. I was wondering why they don't practice an alternate move if they miss the initail move. Could it be that they give the judges a list of the moves in their routines?

  1. They don't give the judges a list of moves in their routines! And most of the time it is to hard to come up with an alternate move! and i am sorry but people at the olympics don't do back rolls it would hurt there score even more! hope i helped:)

  2. no the only apparatus you have to tell the judges what you are doing is vault, so you have to stick to that vault and the start value is already known. on floor it is very hard to go for an alternative move if you miss the initial move as you are concentrating on one particular thing you cant just change it, you also have music to stick to. gymnasts do often have a move they can put in if they miss something on beam, like linked jumps, they will put another jump on the end of a move to make the link and get the bonus.
