Do you have to give up soda if your a vegetarian?

i am going to try becoming a vegetarian but idk what all you have to give up(besides meat).... do you have to give up soda bc i dont think i can.... please help me...ive never done this before and i need a healthier lifestyle and to lose weight but i also need carbonation and caffeine lol...please help me...only serious answers please....

  1. Unless there's some kind of meat soda, then no. But if you eat shrimp you'll be a pescetarian.


  2. Don't worry, there are no animal products in soda. However, soda is full of empty calories, and diet soda is full of strange chemicals, and if you want to lose weight and be healthy I would strongly suggest giving it up. If you can't function without caffeine, try to acquire a taste for coffee or tea, because they're much better for you than soda.

  3. I have been a vegetarian for about 5 years and i drink soda all the time. Being a vegetarian is not all about strict rules, you have your own, you choose what to or not to eat. Some vegetarians eat fish while others do not. Some eat eggs, others don't. It all really depends on you. I will not eat meat (or fish) but i eat eggs. It's all really up to you. But there is nothing in soda that would prevent you from drinking it if you want to be vegetarian. It has lots of sugar but nothing from animals. = )

    It is known that soda can be linked to osteoporosis, tooth decay and obesity.

    Caffeine can increase anxiety, panic, some stomach problems, and some cardiac arrhythmias.

    Just saying.

    It's not that good for you and you mentioned a healthier lifestyle. They don't go hand and hand.

  6. It's not required that you give up soda, but I highly recommend it! Water is a lot better, and it has several benefits.

    If you want to stay awake in the monining, eat an apple instead of drinking coffee.  They're way healthier, and they have more caffeine than coffee! Tea is good too.

    Again, if your goal is to get healthy, do NOT consume any carbonation or soda. And if you're currently drinking a can of soda everyday, you may want to stop and switch to something better.

    If you eat fish, you're not a vegetarian. You're a piscivore/piscitarian (spelling may be wrong).

    Depends on what your motivation is in becoming a vegetarian. Most people become a vegetarian for one of two reasons:

    1. Harm to animals-they believe that animals are friends and its cruel.

    2. Healthy lifestyle-Meat has very high saturated fat, and causes heart attacks, digestive problems, etc.

    of course there is always this one too...

    3. They think its cool-Cool to be "labeled" a vegetarian.

    Anyway, if you are doing for #2 then you should probably stay away from soda cause its unhealthy. But, for #1 there is NO MEAT in soda. And they just dont eat meat. Anything else is a go.

    However, I believe Vegans do not drink certain soda brands (i.e. Coke being a big one) because of their ownership in products that involve animals.

    And any true vegan will steer clear of supporting anything that harms or involves the use of animals.

  12. Well, I don't think that soda is made out of animals and such..so tecnically you don't HAVE to give up soda. Though, if you want to be healthier and lose some weight then it's probably a good idea. For the caffinee you could try drinking green tea. It's better for you then soda plus I hear that it helps to boost your metabolism with time.

  13. no you dont have to give up soda! although its bad to drink anyways i am addicted to it too. but keep in mind you dont need to go vegetarian to lose weight or live healthy. meat it pretty essential for a good diet routine, and depending how much you eat, or what your eating it really isn't as bad as some people make it out to be.

    Vegetarians eat no flesh whatsoever.

    Those that choose to eat fish and no other flesh are called pescatarians.

    You don't have to give up soda as there is no meat in soda, but for your health you should. However, if you are finding it hard to transition to vegetarianism you may want to do one at at ime. And if you are wanting to lose weight, every soda you have is doing the exact opposite.

    In order to wean yourself off soda, try this: start replacing a third of your soda with plain carbonated water. As you get used to this add more carbonated water, until, gradually, you can cut out all the soda. If you are still wanting to drink carbonated drinks on occasion, I love adding either lime or cranberry juice to sparkling water.
