I live in Tennessee, and I'm supposed to recieve a "Key hourly" (shift-leader) position. However, I wonder if I'm going to be able to move up from there, if I need a degree in something... Am I going to have to go to school before moving up from here?

  1. I have moved up to management many times in restaurants, hard work and postive attitude help. Also let other management know that you are intrested. Most places have a training program for management, be flexible with all requests. Degree can be helpful but not necessary ,nothing says more than work experience especially in a restaurant.

  2. A business degree does help. I would advise getting one-looks better on a resume.

  3. I've work in restaurants for almost 20 years and have had a lot of managers in that and none of them had a degree. The best way for you To relay find out is ask you managers if they have one or if they are needed.

  4. No, I have worked in alot of restaurants and usually just the general managers have degrees. so if you want to be more than just a store manager than yeah but otherwise no. In restaurants it's all about experience, because you have to know that place specifically.
