I'm 16 and I turn 17 in two months. I wanted to open up a savings account to get a job and save all my money in the account. Do I have to have a STATE ID first before I can open up an account or what?

  1. ss card will work

  2. A student ID card along with some other supporting information like a Social Security Card and birth certificate should be sufficient to open a bank account.  Since you are under 18, the bank may require one of your parents to be on the account also.

  3. You need only a valid social security number.

Banks need this to report your income to the IRS.

You social security card and a photo ID will do it.
