I'm 14 and have a doctors appointment tomorrow to possible go on the drug accutane (for acne). The only way for me to go on this medication is if im on birth control because I guess it has serious birth defects if you get pregnant while on it. they make all girls who take it go on birth control.

I am NOT sexually active.

will I have to get an exam "down there"

  1. If you do have a pelvic exam, remember.. this is a doctor. As embarrassed or anxious as you may be the first time this is done, the doctor has seen a zillion "down theres" in his or her career. This is for your health. Everyone feels weird having a pelvic exam. Some people close their eyes the whole time, some people tell stupid jokes during the procedure. Looking back, it was less scary and took less time than my drivers' license test. It'll be alright.

  2. Yes you will.

    Its a simple exam though.

just get on it when you're period is over.

  3. I am on Birth Control for my acne and also irregular periods and i didnt have to have an exam when i got put on it!! But i am on Seasonal. But there might have to be an exam in the 3rd month. Maybe?!?!

  4. i didn't have to get one to go on the pill. i had to get an ultrasound, but my case was different than yours. my period wouldn't stop. i was diagnosed with pcos, so i was put on the pill. they usually don't do exams on girls younger than 16 if they're not sexually active, but i guess that depends on the doctor.

  5. I would say most likely yes, you would have to get a pap.  If you do don't worry there not that bad.  And every girl eventually has it done.

  6. I went on birth control when I was 15. I went to Planned Parenthood, and I never had to have any type of vaginal exam, I just had to fill out a few forms (with the help of my mother) and answer some questions. It is actually very easy to get birth control, especially if you have a family member with you for support.

Although it might be nervewracking, as soon as you start becoming sexually active you should get a pap smear/exam. I didn't until I was 19, but in most cases the sooner the better. It isn't as bad as it seems. Good luck with everything!

  7. NO, you do not need an exam. They will make you take a pregnacy test.

  8. They should do a pelvic exam yearly anyway to make sure that everything is how it should be.  Generally before they will prescribe birth control, you will have to get an exam and they will generally make you pee in a cup to make sure you don't have infections and are not pregnant.  I had to go on birth control when I was 11 (definately was not sexually active either).  They still do the same thing as a precaution.

  9. Yes..you need to have an internal exam for birth control.
