Do you have to have a house phone in order to have dsl internet?

i am gonna buy an xbox 360 and i want to play online but i need internet i want to set it up but i am not sure if u also have to have a house phone in order to have internet plz help

Not necessarily.  However, you will have to have the wiring for a house phone.  In the jack for a telephone there are 4 wires.  Black, Yellow, Green, Red.  A regular telephone service uses the green and red wires.  The Black and yellow wires used to be used for power in the old princess phones of the 1980's (the ones where the dial would light up).  Those two wires are now used by the phone company to transmit the DSL data across.  That's why you can surf the Internet and use the phone at the same time.  Most phone companies prefer that you have a regular phone (because they can make more money off of you that way) but it is not necessary for DSL.

It depends on where you live. Look for stand alone DSL in your area. Verizon and ATT does it in some markets

no if its DSL you do not need a land line (house phone). Even for highspeed you dont need it. I dont have a land line and i have verizon dsl. Hope this helped... :)
