Do you have to have a licence for a motorized bicycle???

because its a bike do you have to have licence for it the one i want goes up to 35 mph.

  1. Yes, if it goes 35 MPH, you need a license.

    There is an exception for Electric Motor Assist, but the top speed must be 20MPH or less. And the Electric bike still needs insurance.


  2. If its electric, under 1 horsepower, pedals that work and the motor cuts out at 20mph, Its a bicycle in Colorado, and you do not need insurance or a drivers license.

    what you are looking at is either a motorized bicycle (max 30 mph) or a 49cc moped by colorado law.

    (we have 6 categories of motorized 2 and 3 wheelers here in Colrado, so it gets confusing)

  4. I think if it goes over a sertain speed then yes... otherwise no.
