  1. no. I was adopted and my parents had little money. a local church helped out a lot! Good luck with everything!

  2. It depends which country you live in.  If you live in a civilized society where private adoption for profit is illegal and unethical, then NO.  But;

If we're talking USA, where free-enterprise includes making money off the backs of little babies, then the answer would be a resounding YES (I guess you get a tax credit against your purchase though)

  3. no..but you need to have a stable and goodjob that can proved that you can raise a child and can give the baby a good life...

  4. Do you mean in terms of income and assets, or do you mean in terms of how much it costs to adopt?

You don't generally need to make a ton of money to adopt, no. However, the cost of domestic (U.S.) infant adoption is ridiculous (average about $20,000), as is the cost of international adoption (average about $30,000). Adopting a child from foster care is free or nearly free, depending on your state and the child you adopt.

P.S. Florida_gal.... there are very legitimate, logical--as well as, yes, emotional--reasons some of us don't like the adoption tax credit. If you are really interested, I have a post here on it, where you can see my perspective as well as, in the comments, a lot of dialogue and varying issues on the topic: http://paragraphein.wordpress.com/2007/0...

  5. Yes, that is a sad fact of the matter, but you do. There are many ways to finance adoption and people are more than willing to help. There are even grants available. It is worth every penny and every day of that paper pregnancy that seems never-ending!

  6. Depends if you can find a foster child whos parents are willing to terminate custody, then all you would pay if for home studies and lawyer fees, and court fees, which with no complications (mother or father fighting for custody) your looking at 1000-1500.

  7. Yes. I would set aside $10,000-$30,000 to adopt a child. Start saving now. If you own a home you could always refinance and use that money towards the adoption.

Look at different prices for different countries. Each country is different.

  8. No, not really.  I am adopted, and into a small farm family.  I am from the United States, which is cheaper then adopting from a foreign country.  I was born about an hour from where I live, and my parents didn't have to pay the agency a penny.  But you should have enough money to buy clothes, insurance, a house, toys, food, college...you know, all the essentials.  But by no stretch of the imagination do you have to be wealthy.  Thank you for adopting, what a great decision and I wish you the best of luck!

  9. We adopted internationally and in total (travel, imigration, etc.) it ran us about 27,000.  Yes a lot of money- we are not wealthy (middle class).  We worked hard to have a little saved up before the process but not much.  You can adopt in the stated for less but you are probably still looking at nearly 20,000 when it's all done.  Think of it as bying a new car.  Only this one won't depreciate and will make you smile everyday for the rest of your life. :-)   It was worth every penny!!!  You can't put a price on how much I love her!!

  10. Heather H what's your big problem with people getting a tax credit.  It's not like agancies didn't just raise the cost to offset the credit. Get over yourself.

Babies aren't Things.... get that in your head heather. The cost of an adoption is no differemt then the cost of a marriage. and NO didn't PURCHASE my child or husband.

Anway,,, to the question. Every adoption had it's own fees and YES many of them benefit the agency. Also it depends on what you consider "a lot of money" when I was in H.S. I thought $10,000 was a lot of money. You need to be stable and able to provide for a child among many other things. You don't need a lot of money, but if you're going through an agency you'll need to be able to part with you available money a the drop of a hat and without question or else "you don't love your baby enough" So be prepared.

Pray about it and take your time building assets and an emergency/adoption fund.

    God bless

  11. Yes because you need to pay all the adoption fees and if you adopt from a foreign country then you can pay anywhere from $10,000-50,000.  If you adopt domestic from USA you can expect to pay at least $10,000 to adopt an infant because you need to pay for the mother's medical bills the entire time she is pregnant and for the home study and the agency.

  12. Not necessarily, it depends on how you choose to adopt. Adoption through foster care is definately the least expensive way to go.  You do, however, need to earn enough money to support your family - no matter which avenue you choose.

Adoption through foster care often does not have a fee, and of the states that do have fees they are low and can be waived if you can't afford it. Many states also offer adoption assistance, helping you financially after you adopt.

If you want a new born, if you can find a birth mother on your own, not through an agency, it is generally less expensive than adopting through a private agency.

  13. It depends...We adopted a family member and lawyer and home study fees only cost us $1300. I think private adoptions are much less than thru an agency. Adopting a foster child is a more inexpensive option too. Look into your different options on where to adopt from. Adopting a foster child is a more inexpensive option too.

  14. Yeah.  A couple from my Church have been trying to adopt a baby for the last 6 years.  They finally get a chance, but they are getting a baby boy from Russia.  They had to fly there and take with them perfectly new, crisp money (otherwise they would be accused of having fake money) with them.

All in all, they have spent over $10,000 just to get this baby.  They went as far as to say that they basically "bought this baby."  But they say it will be worth it once the baby is finally theirs.

But this is not the end of their expenses.  They are looking to dish out atleast another $10-15,000.  And this isn't including the normal costs of raising a child (diapers, food, education, etc).

I'm sure a domestic adoption is quite expensive too.  All the expenses and stuff.  But word of advice if you plan to adopt:  find an excellent adoption agency and try not to get screwed.

  15. A lot of people go through a private agency and pay the agency tons of money. However there are agencies out there where they will pay for everything!!!! Look into them.
