  1. In the U.S. you do not need a pilot's license if the aircraft is under specified weight limits, fuel capacity, stall speed, maximum speed and several other regulations.  If you don't know airspace regulations and you fly near clouds or you fly closer than 500 feet of buildings etc or if your fly above 700 or 1200 feet above the ground in certain areas, or find yourself in Class B, C or D airspace without permission, you could be paying some pretty huge fines.  Your aircraft may be within the physical limitations but if you don't have a knowledgeable friend to get you safely in the air, you will eventually sh*t your pants.  Flying one is not as easy as driving a car.

Any violation of any rule will cost you major $$$.  I think fines start at $10,000 and go up from there. Google FAR part 103 for ultralight aircraft.  That is the United States law for flying light aircraft.  Next, Google FAA sectional charts to find out where you are allowed to fly.  I'm not trying to discourage you, it's a lot of fun and not that hard, just don't go off on your own.  Part 103 is for a one seat only.

There is also a Sport Pilot's license available that you should consider if you want to fly something with 2 seats.

  2. Yes you do need to undertake an approved microlite training course and take the appropriate skills test. This is similar to the ppl but with fewer hours of tuition. If You Google Microlite training you should find your answers.

  3. in order to fly, yes!! there is microsoft flight simulator.  Very good life-like program

  4. depends what country you are in

but it would be plain daft to try to fly one without doing all the necessary training

its a long way down to the ground whatever you are in........
