  1. Depends on where you live.

Where I live, there are different levels of daycare certification. Some are just basic, require a certificate that takes no time at all and have limited pay and duties. Other levels require a 2-year certificate. But that's where I live.

  2. Depends on where you live. Here in GA my sister in law plans on being a daycare provider in her home & afterschool care.

    She just has her GED.

Before I had kids I worked at a church daycare for a bit. I at the time also only had my GED.

I was told that I would be taught what to do, but honestly they just had me work with a girl I was replacing for 3 days then left me in charge of 12 kids ages 3-4.

That was really wrong and out of place. I had no idea what to do or what I was doing.

So it really depends on where you live and where you work. Must churches will hire you. My uncle who doesn't have a teaching degree works as a "teacher" at the school his church runs. He has for years and  pretty much learned as he goes. He will go to some event/training during the summer paid for by the church every few years.

Personally I see him as a much better teacher than found in most schools!

  3. Do you want to do home daycare or work in a center?  It depends on where you live.  Here in MD you need a 90 hour class to be a teacher in a center and 12 hours of training a year, CPR/First Aid, and a 2 hour class on SIDS (to be counted against your first 12 hours.)
