Do you have to have insurance for a petting zoo?

i have two goats and some other aniamls that i would like to start a petting zoo but i was wondering if i have to have insurance for having a petting zoo.

  1. My guess would be that you do. Goats can bite, can't they?


  2. In North America the only two types of insurance that you are required to have by law: automobile insurance and worker's compensation. Every other type of insurance you purchase either because: you are required to by contract and/or you wish to transfer the risk of financial loss caused by an event to an insurer. While you are not required to carry liability insurance for your petting zoo I would strongly recommend that you do. Any animal can be unpredictable and can cause bodily injury or property damage. A single incident can wipe you out financially. so unless you're comfortable having to sell your house to cover a lawsuit I suggest you go out and get quotes before opening the zoo.

  3. I don't know about having too, but it would be a smart thing to have a liability insurance in case an accident occurs.

  4. Yes.  AND, it's pretty expensive.  Discuss this with an insurer.
