Do you have to have insurance on a financed vehicle if its not "on the road"?

im going into the army and obviously my car is just going to be sitting in my driveway not getting used, if i turn in the plates does it have to have insurance on it?

  1. Yes the finance co requires it . They want full coverage to protect there interest in the car.Even in your driveway it could get storm damage, vandalism, fire etc even when not driven.  Someone could drive threw your yard and hit it, lots of things could happen.........ujn


  2. They may allow you to just keep comprehensive on it but I doubt it.  you will have to call them to know for sure

  3. yes...you must carry it as it not only protects your interest in the car but the finance companies as well.  talk to your financier as some will allow you to drop the collision while you are away at training if the car is kept in a locked garage.  

  4. yes, you will need insurance.  tell the insurance your situation, they can reduce the rates based upon the risk factors.
