  1. It's a matter of opinion, I had them in Jr. high. But it also depends on what you run, if you run 1500 and up tennis shoes are probably the best, because they have the most support, but for sprinters through the 800 it's better to have something more lightweight, but this doesn't limit you to just spikes. Do what makes you feel comfortable and make sure you get the right type of spikes for the events you plan to do, because sprinters spikes are much different than a mid distance runner's spikes, that's if you do choose to get spikes, of course.

  2. Don't waste your money on spikes if it's your first year. Wait till your sure you want to run track and cross country for a long time.

It's my junior year in high school and running with spikes from my experience helps alot. If you encounter a rainy or muddy meet you will thank the spikes. Plus they're lighter and have good traction. If you already have spikes from cross country just buy smaller metal spikes for track.

If your a serious runner; they do improve your time.

  3. It depends what race you're doing. If you're doing a sprint like the hurdles, 100, 200, or even the 400. I would recommend getting spikes. But if you're more of a middle/long distance person, like the 800, mile or 2 mile, I don't think it's necessary.

  4. Get spikes.  They will help you with traction, and also are ALOT lighter then running shoes.

  5. It really depends on your coach. Most teams do. Why? For one the shoes are lighter in weight. Second they have those spikes on there to

give you the most traction and dig in power. They make different sizes.for different events.

  6. i dont think u do. i do cross country.  look at the olympics. they where sports shoes.  nike new balance addidas, ect.  i dont think they nedd spikes.

  7. It depends on what events you're doing. You don't really need spiky death shoes, but it helps to have light ones especially if you're doing high jump, long jump, hurdles, or pole vault if you have that.

  8. If you are serious about competing you need spikes.
