Do you have to hold a putter at the grip?

I like to hold my hands down very close to the club head, is this legal.

I haven't read the rulebook, but  I would guess it wouldn't matter.  It shouldn't matter.

dont listen to the first and third answeres, those ppl are dumbasses, I've golfed for 6 years now and I KNOW you must hold any club at the grip!

No you don't have to. Hold it anywhere you like.

nope you sure dont. but there are  rules as to where you can stand while holding your putter

It's probably easier if you would just learn to hold it normally, because you will have a lot more control over the club. But, you can hold it whereever you want to as long as it works for you.
