  1. You do not need to know how to swim to just be a sailor in the USN, they will teach you how to float in boot. However, you need to be a strong swimmer if you want to join any NSW (Naval Special Warfare Command) units like SEAL or SWCC.

    Most of the Swicks are not required to dive. Only SEAL, EOD, ND (Navy Diver), and some other people that fix the haul of the ships will required to be at least a Basic Diver.

    If you want to go SWCC you'll need to know how to swim, but not necessarily know how to dive.
