  1. Well, that's where Hollywood is.  It's a neighborhood within the city of Los Angeles.

But you can be an actor anywhere, and your home town is the best place to begin.  Talent scouts (boy, is that an old-fashioned term) still look for talent, and they try to look outside of California, where everyone kind of looks alike after a while.

  2. If you want to get jobs in Hollywood, than you have to live in Hollywood.

It basically just comes down to logistics. If you're pursuing a career in L.A. you need to be available for auditions whenver you get called from your agent. You need to be accessible.

There are some NY based actors who also have a L.A. agent and will go out there for auditions, but these are actors who've already established a name.

So, again, yes you have to move to L.A. to be a Hollywood actor.

** Just a note on the above post about films being shot on location - principal casting is STILL usually done in L.A. (or whereve the studio is based)

  3. not necessarily - thats just where all the publicity is.

first off you need to have a decent resume to get into acting officially unless you get EXTREMELY lucky.

theater classes/workshops and even a theater degree could straight shot you into commercials to start off with.  if you are young, disney is always a good start.

as far as movie production, that usually begins in LA/NY and even florida...but sometimes they have recruiters that go to major cities to look for parts (usually the smallers ones, sometimes the bigger parts) - but thats an excellent start

    hope this helped

  4. A Hollywood actor? Yes.

  5. No, but it would be wise because that is where a lot of auditions are held at.

  6. You  can appear in Hollywood films that are shot on location elsewhere.  I  recommend that an aspiring actor get  established elsewhere and only go to LA when you are known.

  7. i dont think so dunno probably not cause if you live in new york its cool too but i dont live in any of them i live in london i guess in london there are chances in london too but i think there are lots of chances in new york

  8. You don't have to move but it'd be really convenient lol.

  9. If you don't move, how will you be able to audition for jobs?

Then what if you go to an audition and then a week later you get called back? Would you be able to go? Do you have the money to spend like that?

What if you get the job? How do you think you will be able to do the job if you don't live there?

Do you think that with all the competition that there is, that a casting director would call you in from another city to audition if you have no experience and if you are not known? Why would they do that when there are tons and tons of actors like you (probably, as I don't know your type.) just waiting for the phone call to come in and audition and who are just minutes away.

Would you be able to drop everything you are doing for the next day or the same day in the afternoon to be able to jump on a plane and go to an audition? Do you have the time, the money and the flexibility to be able to do that? Would you even want to do that?

I don't at all mean to sound...mean, but merely to make you think about what you asked.

My answer to that question I believe is pretty clear. But in the end, you will have to decide what is more important to you.

Follow you heart, prepare, work hard, be flexible. But for now, start working on developing your acting ability.

    Good luck to you!

    Tony

  10. I'd say no....but it'd help immensely..I have a friend who's been out there for around30 yrs./writing/acting etc..he said it'd be more  difficult the further away you are...

  11. I think you mean by "Hollywood actor" you mean to be 'famous' or a 'film star'?

If that is the case, the answer is no.

In fact, studies show that it is easier to land a film role if you have established yourself in NY before heading to LA.

NY actors have a different training, and are different than the 100000000000 'bubble headed beach blondes'  that have no training, but go to auditions in LA because they believe they have the 'right look.'  Or that's the scene they grew up in, so they just follow suit.

Also a lot of agencies that cast major motion films are bi coastal and will send you to whichever coast they see most beneficial for you to be cast in, because they make their money off of your opportunities.

I'm not saying, that you can't make it if you move to LA.  People have and still do. There are opportunities in LA., and there is some talent.   I'm just saying it is not necessary to have to live there to get your start or big break.
