I know you have to pay a agent 10% of what you earn but am not sure about when you first start out.

  1. well probably. they usually like you to have training. if one thinks your worth it they'll try invest their time with you. but for training they'll probably expect you to invest.

  2. If they ask you to pay ANYTHING it is a scam (Barbizon, John Robt Powers, etc).

That includes requiring you to take classes they offer "for a fee" or use an incredibly expensive photographer they recommend.

Union commission is 10%, non-union can run as high as 20%, managers even more, but NO legitimate talent agent charges to represent their clients.

  3. You never pay an agent, you pay them once they get you a job, 10% of whatever you make.
