i would like to know if you get fired an you get approved for benefits an the company fights it do you have to pay them back for the benefits?

  1. When you file for unemployment and the company fights it, unemployment will gather information from both parties. Now if they rule in your favor, then you won't have to repay your benefits. But if they rule in favor of your company, then you'll have to repay the benefits you've received.

    I went through this with one place I worked at many years ago. And it went to arbitration where we both presented our case. In the end, I won and got to keep my benefits.

    So, yes it's a possibility if unemployment agrees with your employer's position.
