I want to order an MP3 player from a company located in the US, I'm already paying shipping and handling but I want to know if I'll have to pay anything else (duty etc..) when it comes across the border to Canada.

  1. If it is not produced in the US, it will have duty applied, as well as GST and provincial tax (this last is not always applied at the border, but is 'supposed' to be sent later ;-)

If it is made in the US, it will still have the taxes added.

Oh, and you'll pay a fee for Customs Clearance from Canada Post, or UPS, or Fedex (or whoever the shipper was)
