If you don't mind watching the same channel on some of them you can use one receiver to feed two or three sets usually!  If you want to watch different channels on each of them, you need a tuner for each and that will cost you.

So, the answer is, how many channels you want to watch at the same time?.. If you want all set to the same channel you really only need ONE receiver and some amps and cable. If you want different channels, you need multiple receivers and subscriptions.
