I wasn't sure if all preschool was expensive. I guess it depends where you come from.

  1. My wife is a preschool teacher and has her Master Teacher Certificate for Preschool.

The first to answerers might be right for their state but are certainly wrong for others.

Some states do offer free preschool while others do not.

The answer is, it depends on where you live.

  2. I live in rural PA.  I pay $109 a month for 3 days per week, 2.5 hours a day.  I'm sure the price differs by area.  I can tell you that it has been well worth the investment.  It has helped my four year old get ready to make the transition to full day kindergarten next year.

  3. It depends on what country you live in as well. Some nations have public preschool and even child care programs.

In the United States there has been a push for universal preschool but it varies by state. In Illinois many of the public schools are now opening up Head Start or State Preschool classrooms that are free to families who qualify. There is usually a wait list for these programs as well as income requirements. You should also know that school run programs like these are not child care, the hours are the same as the schools: 8am to 3pm, give or take.

If you are qualified and make minimum to no income you may be able to sign up for Head Start programs. Again there are requirements and right now families have to be barely getting by to qualify.

Private preschools sometimes have sliding fees based on your income. And some states still have child care/preschool subsidies based on your income.

  4. Yes there are some parent participation schools that are less expensive you might check with the local Adult Education also the park & Recreations in my area offer preschool at a lower rate.

  5. Yes you do.

  6. Well I guess it all depends on the preschool programs that are offered in your area. If there are any More at Four preschools in your area then they are free. Some of the elementary schools in my county have More at Four preschools and they are free. My two older children attended them at the school they are in now. One is in 3rd grade and the other in kindergarten now. So when they started kindergarten they already knew most of the teachers in the school and at least half of the kids in their class.  My son will be starting in 2009. If these aren't available in your area then you can check you county's Dept. of Social Services to see if they offer child care subsidy. This will help pay for some or all of your preschool expenses.

  7. In NY I didn't have to pay for my kids education or registration, (Only for their lunches, etc) public school is free...

Here in Illinois, you pay for EVERYTHING...

  8. Yes, there aren't any public preschools because it's not mandatory that children attend preschool....

It depends where you go, how expensive it is...most are a little pricey..

  9. Yes you do have to pay for preschool and it depends on where you go as to whether or not it is expensive. I work for a daycare and it's around $90 for a 2-3 year old to go 2 days a week for 3 hours each day. I would call around to the preschools around your area and check each one out. Just remember sometimes you get what you pay for. I would suggest going and looking at the prospective schools you choose! Good luck!

  10. Yes and yes!  What you though it was free???   LOL  LOL  lol

  11. Its only free if you are really poverty stricken. If so contact your local school district and ask about Head Start. Otherwise you have to pay for it - but - some schools do have pre-school at their building so ask the schools.
