Do you have to pay into the unemployment fund if you own your own SCorp in NJ?

I am the only employee of my corporation and know that I cannot collect unemployment benefits. Do I have to be paying into unemployment if I cannot collect it?

  1. Yep.

    If the state doesn't charge you, federal will.

    This drives every 100% shareholder S-corp owner nuts.


  2. You actually can collect and are required to pay.  The rules are more strict for you to collect though.  Otherwise someone would lay them self off whenever business went down.
