Do you have to pay taxes when trading vehicles with someone?

I am looking to trade my motorcycle for a car. I was wondering if I do this will I have to pay any kind of taxes or any other costs when I get it titled and registered in my name?

  1. Yes, when you get the title in your name they are going to tax you and you have to get the title before you can register it. The only way I know to avoid taxes is if the car was a gift. In Ohio, I gave my daughter my old car and she didn't have to pay any taxes.
