  1. Up until grade 12 (to the end of high school) is free in Canada.

University and college education costs money, but the cost is heavily subsidised by the provincial government. University tuition in Canada runs anywhere from 2-12 thousand dollars per year, depending on where you study. In the US, that same education would cost several times more due to the lack of government subsidy.

  2. Everyone has to pay for school in America, I know that. It's really expensive too. Most years I'm running a $50,000 tab a semester. From what I hear, Canada is just as expensive, but maybe with the exchange rate the way it is it's only about 45 grand instead of fifty. Hope this helps.

  3. Only for private schools.

Public schools are free (well...'free'...you pay for them through taxes.)

    Edit:

Oh, if you mean 'school' as in post-secondary institutions (college, university), then yes, you pay for that, but no way near as much as one does in the United States...The government provides a fair bit of support on that one. It still ends up being fairly expensive though.

  4. School up to high school graduation is free, though there are private schools which you can choose to go to, and you pay privately for them. Post-secondary schools such as community colleges, universities and technical schools are not free though they are cheaper for Canadian residents than US universities are for US residents. If you're not a Canadian resident you pay more for the same post-secondary school.
