Anytime you're going to have a yard sale, you need to call your local city hall.

A lot of cities will have to issue you a permit.  Trust me, you don't want to get caught having a sale and not have a permit.  Can you imagine how stupid you would feel if a permit only cost a few bucks, but you wind up having to pay a much more expensive ticket, because you didn't ask.

It depends on your city, some have fees around like $5.  Not a lot and really unless it's a HUGE sale, I wouldn't worry about it.  If you are concerned, just call the city offices of where you live and ask, the person answering the phone should know.
