Do you have to perform like michael phelps to get commercial sponsers behind you?

Obviously Olympians like gymnists Shawn Johnson and Nastia Lieukin won't get as many sposors behind them as Phelps but do they still have some ppl willing to sponsor them and put them in a mcdonals commercial or something lol

Not quite, I've learned that it doesn't take such an accomplishment to get sponsorship.  I've ran across many pro shooters in my archery career, some of them are not even that good.  It's just a matter of writing a letter to them and if you're convincing enough you'll get sponsorship.  Not big money, but they'll throw in some equipment etc.  But of course if you're talking about the multi million dollar sponsorship that Phelps just got, then you better perform.

I assume you mean "SPONSORS" (not sponsers, or sposors)?

But to answer your question - no, of course not.  If this was true, then Michael Phelps would be the only person in history to receive any commercial endorsements!

It's just common sense - if you wanted someone to endorse your products, and were investing huge amounts of money in them to do so, wouldn't you naturally seek those who are the most recognizable, most admired, and most attractive?

And I HOPE we never see Shawn Johnson in a McDonald's commercial!  That's all we need...America's top gymnast promoting junk food to our already unhealthy generation!

they showed shawn johnson in her hometown and they went to her grocery store and her picture was on like, 5 different products there. so maybe they get it too, but more locally rather than nationally.
