I want to get one of those airconditioners that you normally put in windows for my dorm room this fall

Unfortunatly we are not allowed to have tham at my college so i figure instead of putting it in my window ill just stick it in a corner of my loft instead.

Will this work? I figure those things go in windows for a reason i just don't know what it is.

  1. no the rear of the ac produces a lot of heat so while you have cold air coming out of the ac the backend will be pouring out heat as well as water since all ac's extract humidity from the room air thats why they drip so not only will you have equal heat coming from the back but you'll also have a flood of water on your floor

  2. no you can't just stick it in a corner. but they do make air conditioners that don't need to go in a window. they're called portable air conditioners. here's a link to some.

  3. It has to get rid of the heat and water. But they do make some portables that you empty a bucket .

  4. A/C's work whether they're in a window or setting on a table.  The bad part of that is that while it's making cold air out the front, it's making an equal amount of hot air which comes out the back, not to mention the dehumidification effect, which results in a stream of water.   They are making a new style of A/C now, for rooms where you don't want to put an A/C in the window.  They have a long exhaust hose, similar to a dryer vent, that attaches to a vent screen of some sort which does have to set in the window to get rid of the hot air.  I imagine they're pretty pricey though.

  5. no and your in college asking that   what are you going to be  a rocket sientice

  6. It won't work. You need a window! Otherwise you're going to be dripping coolant and water all over the place.

  7. No. An air conditioner puts out hot air on one side and cold on the other. More hot than cold. It will make your room hotter. Try a fan.

  8. There are some very good portable units available. Most have a reservoir to catch the condensate, which you remove and empty. Sears, Home Depot and Walmart, among others, carry them. You will still have to be close to a window. The vent to remove the hot air runs through a hose (like a dryer exhaust) and connects to a panel that you place in the window. The panel is about 4 inches high, and will run the length of the window.

You can sometimes find them for as low as $199.
