When waxing a surfboard is it important to remove all of the old wax first?

  1. No. If you have a good layer of wax going, leave it and just add a new layer. I usually remove my wax when it gets discolored or gets too hard. When it gets too hard it starts to fall off in small pieces.


  2. Only remove the wax when it gets brown or ugly looking, all you are doing is wasting the wax if you remove it all the time.

  3. I would think so.  It is in skiing.

Yes.  Just use a wax scraper or an old ruler or an old plastic cd cover to remove the wax.  Then you can use papertowels to wipe down the rest.  Make sure to get it clean.  Next, take your BASECOAT and lay down a nice medium thick layer.  People say a thin layer is fine but I would lay down a slightly thicker layer.  Next use whatever 'normal' wax you have (make sure you check the water temp and use the correct wax) and lay down a top layer.  It should be nice and beady.  For more information check here:
