I have 6 windows on the second floor of my home that are in bad need of re-glazing, the old putty is literally falling off. I can't stand the sight of it, plus knowing how much energy is slipping through is upsetting. Whats the quickest way to do this?

  1. I would agree with the first answer you received, but would add the following:

    1. Use a heat gun to heat and remove all of the old glazing compound. Just heat it and scrape it off.

    2. Use new glazers points to secure the glass prior to re-glazing.

    3. Since you have the sashes in a convenient place, why not scrape/prime/paint them now rather than getting on a ladder later, after they are reinstalled??

  2. A friend boiught a fixer-upper a while back and I helped her quite a bit in making repairs and upgrades.  We found that it is much easier to reglaze if the sash was taken out and laid on a table.  Hopefully, this is possible in your case.

We rolled the glazing compound out ini hands to form a rope and then laid it in the slot and shaped witih a putty knofe.  Latex is easiest to work with using a slightly dampened knife.  Go to an Ace Hardware or similiar store and they can give good advice.  Good luck.
