Do you have to run a canister filter constantly? Can I turn it off at night?

I have a turtle tank and just bought a Magnum 350. Do you have to run it constantly. I am afraid of my little one getting stuck in the intake tube and drowning while I'm asleep. (shes very small) Is it OK to turn it off at night while I'm sleeping and restart it in the morning? Will this cause any bacterial buildup or harm to the unit? Thanks in advance!

it should be left to run all the time...if your worried about her size get a peice of mesh screening (the stuff they use for screen doors) plastic and attatch it to the bottom of the intake tube with an elastic band...

if your realy worried arrange some rocks around that area to form a barrier
