  1. if you were to practice nothing but overhand serving for just one afternoon, i'll bet you could do it.

  2. It depends.  You could be a Libero and not have to serve.  But for the other positions you will need to be a good server especially if you want to hit.  You will need to exptend your arm and follow through.  It took me a whle but when I got good at my overhand serve I felt awesome and now the other teams are way intimadated.  best of luck!!!

  3. no it doesnt ...i have been playing volleyball for 2 years, and i still serve underhand. so dont worry you will be able to serve overhand, but until then just do your best by serving underhand

  4. no. a well placed underhand serve can be just as effective as a hard over hand.

  5. yes -- when you get up to the higher levels (ie high school) good teams will destroy underhand serves

  6. yes u learn to hit from the start u can spike there.

  7. If you plan to make it to middle/high school volleyball, yes. Underhand serving is illegal in upper level sports. A jump serve is required to play in any college also.

  8. Pretty Much

  9. no not neccacerily, but it would help. At one point in time i could not even make my overhand serve to go to the net but i could still bump very well. So your answer is no you do not have to servve overhand to be an excelent volleyball player.

  10. not necessarily but overhead serves are better than underhand. that is y pros use overhand.

  11. I don't think so, but it certainly helps. I learned how to overhand serve and the ball really isn't harder to hit back just because it's served overhand. But there are two strong advantages of the overhand hit in volleyball: one advantage of the overhand serve is INTIMIDATION of the members of the other team...the other advantage is that the ball goes in a more straight line over the net, as opposed to the arc that an underhand hit or serve does.

The straighter line of ball movement makes it harder for the members of the other team to react and plan their moves in time. It's pretty easy to learn to hit overhand, and if you are serious about your game, you'll be happy you learned.

  12. Thats a big no!

You can be a pro. and still not be able to serve overhand.

  13. definitely not !! but you should learn cause it really does INTIMIDATE the other team and if you're already a good volleyball player and you learn to overhand serve.. then that makes you an EVEN BETTER volleyball player =) give overhanding a shot.. it's not that bad once you get the hang of it =D ..don't you want to intimidate the other team and feel good that you CAN overhand ! i hope i helped ya !

  14. Not necessarily. But to serve that way will make it harder for the opposing team to receive the ball the way they like. Definitely overhand serves are far stronger and better than underhand serves but that doesn't mean you have to serve overhand to be a good volleyball player. If you can't do overhand serves its okay, try to make up by serving underhand and making the ball land just inches away from the other side of the net. got it?Goodluck!
