Do you have to show your student card on the train?

i just wondered do you have to show your student card while on the train or just when your purchacing your ticket

this is in england btw!

  1. Tickets bought with any kind of Railcard are only valid when they are shown with the Railcard. If you do not, then the conductor is entitled to treat you as travelling without a valid ticket, and make you buy a new full-price ticket.


  2. Both. If you get on the train using a discounted ticket but cannot show your railcard when you get on the train you will have to buy a new ticket, you may have to pay a penalty fare and you could ultimately be prosecuted.

  3. it really depends- technically you have to have it on you at all times you are travelling. If the conductor asks for it and oyu cant show it he can charge you for a full price ticket. However, most conductors cant be bothered asking you to show it. Just luck of the draw. Keep it with you at all times to be safe.

  4. If you are talking about a Young Persons Railcard then you should have to show it when you purchase a ticket and then show it when asked for your ticket on the train.

    A Student Card does not give you reduced travel.
