Do you have to sign up for service with a GPS unit?

When you buy a GPS do you have to sign up for service before it will work or does it work right out of the box?

It works right out of the box, the only thing  you would soigne up for is traffic data service if you want real time traffic.

Depends on the unit. Some require updates for traffic or construction, etc

No service required. GPS signals are free to use.

Be sure to follow directions though because there is usually a delay when using the device the first time (often only a few minutes if that.)
